Carmen Lagos's paintings exhibit a keen grasp of the innate structure of nature-not only the obvious forms of leaves and blossoms but also their more subtle relationships to each other. In her images, she deftly creates order out of the chaos of abundant growth. In doing so, she helps us see her subjects more clearly and appreciate them more fully, her earthly palette is subdued compared with Castillo's, yet her painting teem with life and energy. It is obvious from the detail in her work that she is closely tied to and intimately understands her subjects both as abstract forms and as vital lining organisms.

" Art brought us together.....I could sense Gustavo had a feeling about color
and form that I admired from the beginning. He told me about feeling and I told him about technique."

Gustavo Castillo's mastery of the medium is apparent. His mastery of the nuance united abstract and representational imagery. His earlier works brought order to seemingly random arrangement of palm fronds or grape leaves by building on a strong but well-concealed arrangement of abstract elements. In his current paintings, the abstract foundation underlying his work has been brought center stage. His images shift effortlessly from the familiar shapes and colors of pears and mangos to near-pure abstract interactions of form and color in a way that is both playful and deeply satisfying.
"So I can not separate painting from my relationship with my wife Carmen. After all, it is the same-our work and our lives converging"

Before Lagos and Castillo painted full-time, Carmen was an architect, Gustavo a commercial pilot. Art influenced their relationship from the very beginning and completely changed their lives. In the 24 years that they have been full-time painters, they have discovered that they live trustful, confident lives together, and are experiencing the joys of dedicated creation.
